My husband and I have just spent four days at the Distinction, a trip sadly truncated due to my husband's illness. The staff were so welcoming on our arrival and could not have done more for my husband and I when he fell ill. The manager even helped us out to our car with the luggage!
We booked a Lakeview Suite, as we have done on several previous occasions, and we were delighted to see that the two rooms had not changed in terms of the lay out. The bedroom and lounge are so spacious and the bathroom is simply palatial, with a whirlpool bath and double walk-in shower, plus a heated floor for the colder periods.

We are lucky enough to spend a lot of the year staying in five star hotels around the world and whether you have stayed in the Four Seasons in Sydney or Santa Barbara, the Intercontinental in Rome or in Century City, Los Angeles, the Distinction in Te Anau has the best bathroom facilities of any of the named hotels and has by far the prettiest view. The serene tranquillity of an evening spent on the suite balcony looking out over the lake is something we could do for the rest of our lives. If only the Distinction would let us stay there permanently!
On our arrival on this occasion, the reception staff already knew who we were. Hopefully it was not because our poor reputation had preceded us ! Little touches such as the addition of wifi in the rooms were very well received and we were thrilled to be greeted so warmly by all the staff, many of whom we have got to know over the past five years. The attention to detail for returning guests is unsurpassed elsewhere in our experience. For example, it had been remembered that, on a previous visit, we had asked for a few extra coat hangers and some tall glasses in the kitchenette. These were ready and waiting for us in the room this time round!
The hotel offers a superb buffet and a la carte breakfast and eggs are cooked to order on request. Not to be missed, especially if you are off doing energetic activities during the day.
It was hugely disappointing to have to cut our stay so short and, once my husband has recovered fully, we will be winging our way back to the Distinction. An exceptionally well-run hotel, with an unbeatable location".
