Distinction Mackenzie Country Hotel are seeking a skilled and motivated Commis Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. As a Chef de Partie, you will oversee a designated section of the kitchen, ensuring that all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards. You will work closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef to maintain the smooth operation of the kitchen, with particular focus on the buffet-style setup.

Type of Work and Hours:
• Minimum guaranteed hours: 30 hours per week
• Rostered shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
• Summer season contract from 1 October 2026 to 31 May 2027

Pay Rate:
Hourly rate: $28.00 per hour (minimum) to $28.00 per hour (maximum)

Job Description & Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items under the supervision of senior chefs
• Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including food storage areas
• Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times, including proper handling, storage, and labelling.
• Assist with stock rotation and inventory control
• Support the kitchen team during busy service periods
• Carry out basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, peeling, and portioning ingredients
• Regularly clean and sanitize your station and equipment to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations in the kitchen, maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and your team
• Maintain proper storage of ingredients, ensuring that all products are used efficiently and inventory is monitored
• Prepare, cook, and present dishes to the highest quality in line with the buffet offerings and menu specifications
• Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner and ready for display at the buffet
• Assist in developing and refining buffet items and maintaining the consistency of flavor and presentation

Minimum Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
• At least 1 year of relevant kitchen experience OR a relevant Level 3 or 4 cookery qualification
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude
• Willingness to learn and take direction from senior kitchen staff
